In 1909, The Follies, directed by H G Pelissier were at the height of their popularity. More than a concert party, Pelissier writing in the Pall Mall Gazette, stated: I have created a new School of Humour. What I have sought to give the public has been the revival of the true spirit of burlesque suited to the quicker inteligece of the day. The Odeon Company decided to record their songs and monologues and subsequently issued what was probably the first record album which contained a selection of six discs. Other records were available and this CD comprises 17 of their rare original recordings.
